Hi, I was a student at Freyberg High School from 2014 to 2018. I was a friendly and approachable student, not just with my peers but also with the staff. I valued being a great helper, which was reflected in my involvement with Tararua House, my role as a student librarian in my junior years, and assisting the computing department during open nights.
For Tararua House, my contributions ranged from helping set up assemblies (even as a junior), eagerly participating in house sports events, and, in my final year, being a member of the leadership team. T It Up!
When it comes to sports, I played volleyball, netball, and badminton. My main motivation was always to have fun and support my team, especially during tough moments. In my final year, I didn’t play as much as I used to because I committed to the school production of The Wizard of Oz, where I played both a Munchkin and a Monkey—just another way I showed my dedication to being there for others.
After Freyberg, I pursued a Bachelor of Creative Media at UCOL, specializing in illustration. I could say I’ve become a freelance illustrator, as I’ve created many illustrations that can be given as gifts, used for seasonal occasions like Christmas, Easter, and Halloween, or simply shared with the world. Right now, I’m open to requests for custom illustrations, and some of my designs can even be printed on shirts. One of my main projects involves creating designs based on clients’ names, as every name has a special meaning. I love that this makes each piece personal and unique—because everyone is special in their own way.
Freyberg was where I developed my love for exploring ideas, which became a lifelong hobby. I keep a record of every idea I come up with because I believe even the smallest concept can lead to something great. Subjects like Drama and English inspired me to understand how stories are created and how I could develop my own.
Even after graduating, I’ve stayed in touch with many of my friends. We’ve all gone our separate ways, but the memories we made keep us connected. I also keep in contact with some of the teachers and staff, whether it’s to catch up or to lend a hand whenever I can.
One thing is certain: I treasure the memories I made at Freyberg, as they continue to inspire and motivate me. If I could go back in time to talk to my younger self, I’d reassure her that, even though she started out feeling lonely, she shouldn’t give up—because good things are on the way. I’d tell her to keep moving forward and stay positive. She will meet incredible people who will help her become the best version of herself, people who will stand by her, guide her, and cherish every moment together.
That’s what I love about Freyberg—the amazing people who inspire you to be your best and support you in achieving your goals.
