Currently in its final week with only three performances left, Come From Away by Act Three Productions is full of Freyberg connections.
This heart-warming musical shares the true story of 7,000 airline passengers who, following the events of 9/11, were unexpectedly grounded in Gander, Newfoundland—and of the incredible kindness shown by the community who welcomed them.
The production team is led by alumni and staff: directed by ex-student Phil Anstis, musically directed by our current Arts Coordinator (and your Alumni Coordinator!) Lottie Perry, and choreographed by ex-student Matthew Lyne (Class of 2023).
On stage, Jessie Feyen (Class of 2006) brings to life the role of Beverley Bass with another ex-student Kaydee Zabelin as her alternate, Current maths teacher Bridgette Lynch is the alternate for Diane.
Behind the scenes, Brooklyn Retter (Class of 2022) has excelled in leading the sound team, which also includes two talented Year 13 performers, Jordah Hobbs and Charlotte Rouse. Brooklyn was the recipient of the Freyberg Performing Arts Trophy for Most Outstanding Contribution to the Technical Crew in 2021 and 2022 - it's awesome to see him carrying on with this.
The live band also features Peter Warren on fiddle who, upon venturing into the trophy cabinet, was confirmed as the very first recipient of the Bevan Cup for Best String Player back in 1994, and again in ’95 and ’96.
If you’re local, this is a show not to be missed. Reviews are linked below if you need a little more convincing!
